Engine code questions

Default Engine code questions

So I hooked yup my trusty scam gauge 2 I have to my truck after having it out for awhile and my truck shows 2 codes. A p0441 & 0783. Thw 783 code is trans shift 3-4 now the 441 code is one I was wondering if it might be causing me problems. Could it cause hard starts or anything related to that. like running real rich but showing lean on the scan gauge. Its just something I've been wondering cause if I hit the gas kinda hard twice real fast my truck shoots a cool little fire out the tailpipe. Um yeah if anyone could help it would be cool

no. P0441 is an evap leak/purge solenoid problem.

P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow


What does that mean?

This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer functioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
EVAP emission canister purge is controlled by a valve which allows engine vacuum to pull stored fuel vapors from fuel tank into the engine to be burned, rather than be vented to atmosphere. A vacuum switch is used to detect when flow exists. If the PCM commands purge and sees that the switch is closed (indicating no detected purge flow) P0441 is set.

Symptoms


Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light.

Causes


A code P0441 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Bad vacuum switch
  • Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister
  • Open in PCM purge command circuit
  • Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
  • Faulty purge solenoid
  • Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister
  • Corrosion or resistance in purge connector
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions

With a P0441 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Common Chrysler fix - Replace Leak Detection Pump / LDP
  • Repair damaged EVAP lines or canister
  • Repair open or short in voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
  • Repair open in PCM purge command circuit
  • Replace purge Solenoid
  • Replace vacuum switch
  • Repair restriction in Evap line or canister or solenoid
  • Repair resistance in purge connector
  • Replace PCM
Highly doubt this is the cause of flames coming out your exhaust.

If I'm not mistaken. I think my evap is unhooked on my engine. Not by me just how I got it. Im just trying to figure out how my ecm output is showing lean but im running real rich causing the fire ball or backfire I guess you could say coming from my truck. Im thinking my ecm is bad or its the fact that I don't have a cat on my truck but surely that wouldnt cause the backfire

Oh and I did google search the codes I just wanted to know someones past experiences and how they might have fixed it

You can catch more bees with necter than viniger

If your oxygen sensors have more than 80,000 miles behind them and you suspect they're faulty, replace them. No questions, no bull5h17, just do it. Don't even think about anything else until that's done.

Do that, and report back about your symptoms as they exist after those sensors are changed. Also, remember: Denso or NTK for those sensors, because the rest are garbage.
