Thumbs up Dodge 1999 2500 v8 shifting late @ 3500 rpm

I just purchased this 1999 2500 and It shifts late. Seems to shift at 3500RPM no matter what gear it's in. Would this possible be an adj. to the throttle valve cable? Truck sat for about 1 year and we had to replace all the front breaklines
just to get it to shift out of park. Has 101,000 and is quite strong other than this issue. I might add the rear bumper looks like swiss cheese.....LOL Thanks in advance Mike aka 1999dodge2500

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

Truck needs to be at normal operating temps and in Neutral.

That could indeed be a TV cable problem. It's an easy check, and an easy adjustment if it's needed.

While you're thinking about the transmission, do the anti-drainback check valve delete mod if it's not been done yet. It's cheap, easy, and can save your transmission's life. I always recommend stuffing a remote ATF filter in place of the check valve -- in addition to making replacement of the internal filter unnecessary until it's so old that it's at risk of falling apart, it restores the anti-drainback functionality.

Here's the link for the TV Cable adjustment, if needed:

Fluid was good, I' going to change it as well as the filter. I did notice that the TV cable up top moves rather freely, I will check it after work Tuesday to see if it is indeed broken down on the tranny end. Thanks again for the help! Mike AKA 1999dodge2500

An update on my project....The TV cable does not seem to be connected at the tranny, I had my son operate the top end while I went down under and watched and it never moved as he pulled on the cable. Strangely the cable at the top is just that cable and where it connects it changes a rod of some type. I am wondering if thats where it may be broken?? I took it for a ride to get the rusted bumper cut off so I could install my junk yard find on...$100.00 for a practically new bumper. Shifts funny but it is shifting. Thank You again for all your help. I'll try a post a photo soon. Mike aka 1999dodge2500

Watch throttle valve movement while depressing gas pedal. Shift points should be 10 to 15 mph, then 25 to 30 mph then about 40-45 at steady moderate increase in throttle. Take care and only move tv cable 1/8 in at a time until you get it where you like. Read the link above. Good luck.
