Stewie,

It might be that the fitting is fine and what has failed is the o-ring on the fitting. This would be common. Get the hose just in case, but also grab oring kit or the size that you will see on the new line.

Replace the oring for starters and if it works, then you can return the new hose or keep as a spare for the heck of it.

For bleeding, I really recommend a 2nd person doing the steering wheel turning while you keep the PS reservoir full with a constant eye.

Cheers

Nukle,

It's leaking where the rubber line is fitted to the metal line. How would I re-O ring that? Isn't that fitted into one piece?

If that is indeed the leak source, then yes disregard. Difficult to tell in your pics. The gear box picture showing all the build up led me to think more so the threaded fitting to the box.

Have you thought of just cleaning everything up, start the rig up, put some glasses on and get the wheels turning and look for the active leak?

Anyways, definitely get the new hose and thought to mention other possible leak source for ya.

I did clean things up! I saw fluid buildup at that fitting, the hot line from the battery in the spiral wrap that runs by thete is drenched from that fitting down, the threaded ens are all dry, back of the rubber line from the fitting up (towards top of motor) is also soaked.

The other rubber line next to the pressure lie is dry.

yes, that's it. it the high pressure line, has crimps on both ends, and is not serviceable. you have to replace it.

replace it. top off fluid, clean up with brake cleaner, check for leaks... drive around the yard and turn wheel back and forth. top off again. done.

Replaced the line this evening.

The nut on the top was nice and tight, took several turns with a wrench before I could finger it off.

The bottom nut took one weak pull and I could finish it the fingers.

Earlier today I noticed when you turned from lock to lock the bottom metal bend into the steering box pulled hard to the frame, and the new line doesn't. I wonder if that bottom nut was loose.

New line is in, probably put too much fluid in, had the wife turn from side to side while adding fluid.

Washed it down with the water hose drove it around and up the road, checked again and no leaks.

Steering felt great.

Gotta hit town again tomorrow, will check again.

Also noticed 3 of the fan blades are bent a little, must have been from driving through water.

Edit:

Forgot to add this yesterday, but the O Rings were intact and in good shape on the old line.
