Default 46RE to NV4500 in a 97 ram 1500

I can't seem to find the answers to some of my questions. I'm sure some of these have been covered but a lot of the swap threads have never been completed. So here are my questions will the NP231 that is behind my 46RE mate to a NV4500. Will I be able to use my stock drive shafts. I know that the gas and diesel trannys are different. If I were to get the trans and the transfer case from a diesel and changed the input shaft on the trans would my drive shafts work with the diesel T/C. I know these are alot of questions but, I would have to get a pile of parts and find out they don't fit. Oh I guess I should add 97 Ram 1500 club cab short box 4x4 5.2

No, it will not fit, unless you get a adapter or adapter main shaft. No, your driveshafts won't work with a diesel version if they are gasoline, as the diesel and most of the gas had a larger yoke on the t/c. Best bet, is IF the driveshafts are the same length, have someone weld one of the bigger yokes on your driveshaft. Check my sig for a link to my swap thread, I just updated with pics and video, more to come.

Nope. The NV4500 has a different output shaft than does a 46RE or NV3500.

Not all NV4500 gasoline versions do. the NV3500 does.

Correct. do you do a lot of towing or just want a manual just to have one? If all you want is just a manual, then get a NV3500. If you want some really serious transmission for towing, mudding, etc. then get a NV4500.

I agree. Far more plentiful and the parts you have will bolt up. I have been running a NV3500 for a couple of years in my W350 with a fair bit of towing and it is as stong as ever.

I don't do a lot of towing but I'm a full time radio personality and part time farmer. So you never know what the truck will be used for. It's a daily driver but does see time in the fields on trials. I'm looking for the best of both worlds and I'm tired of the 46RE's ****.
