Default code P1762 help

My '99 Ram keeps on throwing P1762 even after replacing the sensor solenoid combo.
Whats next to take a look at?

By combo, do you mean you replaced both, Gov sensor and Gov solenoid? Or you replaced the TCC/OD solenoid unit?

Gov sensor & Solenoid, and to add, the speed sensor on the OD.
I was told by several places the OD solenoids very rarely go bad.
The truck will start off in 2nd, I get it going, cycle the key on and off and it will start off in 1st till next time.

My speedometer tends to only work in the warmer months as well, the speed sensor in the differential is new as well.

I drive a Charger when there isnt snow (April till whenever) and then drive the truck. 80% of the other times it sits unless I need to haul something.

I rebuilt it around 2k miles ago, other than the Gov solenoid issue it shifts fine.

google turned up this unexpected possibility.

Ok. On a gas engine there are 2 main factors that can set this code. The first one, seemingly transmission unrelated, is a partially shorted upstream or downstream oxygen sensor. The sensors share the same 5 volt reference as the governor in the trans, and a bad sensor can sometimes set this code without setting an o2 sensor code. To check for this you can unplug the sensors, clear the codes and drive the truck to see if the problem still is there. The most likely cause for the problem is a bad governor pressure solenoid or transducer. These both mount to the valve body and are replaced together when there is a governor problem. If the o2 sensor test does not change anything, drop the pan and replace the solenoid and transducer (pressure sensor)

Hmm I am going to have to replace the O2 sensors then, not all the time, but the couple of times I had pulled the codes, the code for the downstream O2 was one of them.

Thanks
Shawn

I wonder if that cat came apart and a chunk hit the sensor. It rattles, but it is hard to tell where it is coming from, plus the sensor is original to the truck and has 60k miles.

unlikely. when they short out its more likely the heater circuit burning out and shorting the 12v heater to the 5v signal wire.
