Default Fuel economy and dual exhaust

I just bought a 2001 2500 4x4 5.9L and it needs an exhaust (single exhaust out the side now). Would it be beneficial to go with dual pipes from the muffler back to aid fuel economy, I will be installing an electric fan, and cai, along with a tuner eventually. Will a cat back dual exhaust fit?

I ran true duals from the manifolds back. No change in mileage but it sounds faster

true but if you use imperial gallons instead a US gallon thing look better. 18mpg can turn into 21mpg that easy.

I wouldn't mind these gas prices as much either if I was getting 3/4 of a liter more per gallon at the same price.

let her breathe a little a more with an intake an headers and itll sound a lot faster... i used to hear that same thing though that allowing the motor to breathe and exhaust better would not only net you a little more hp but a tiny increase in fuel economy...guess its just another myth.

It will get just that a tiny increase, but what you gain/save would take you years to get back in what it cost in parts to achieve.

Welcome to DF. The only thing that will help your truck mileage wise is to sell the truck and buy a prius. This is an interesting read:

Screw the prius idea...a hundred hp electric motor produces a little over 500 ft/lbs of torque...it'll cost ya about 6k. Then ive been kickin around some ideas to turn your wheels that will already be moving into generators so youll never need to plug in...

...if i win the powerball i'll post the plans in a couple weeks otherwise check back in 20 years...
