Default 1999 Ram 3500 Transmission swap

I have a 1999 Ram 3500 4x4 Diesel that needs the automatic transmission rebuilt or swapped. Anyone know what year models are compatible?

Thanks.

you should have the 47 or 48RE in your truck. I think either from a 98-99 would work. Same trans is behind the v-10, but, I would suspect they get a different torque converter.

If my Google Fu is correct it looks like they used the same transmission from 98.5 to 2001. I have found a used 2001 from a 3500 diesel 4x4, but haven't been able to confirm if it will bolt and plug right in.

Bolt right in. Plug right in. Now, whether everything will work right is another question. Over the years, they changed the pinout on the connector for the trans, and the governor housings can be a bit different. Easy fix though, just install the correct parts for your year truck, and everything is right as rain. Keep your old dead one till you verify the new one works correctly.

I would imagine that unless your truck, or the donor truck are a 2001.5 or a 2000.5, they would be the same in that regard. I think they changed a couple things in mid-year 01. But I may be wrong.

Thanks for the help. I'll pick up the used transmission and try to swap it when I get time.
