Default O.D. On off button use.

Hello- I feel like an idiot asking this question but here goes. When should you use this button? I know I have turned of the O.D. and left it off towing. I however want to increase gas mileage towing but I hesitate because I am not sure about the operation of the O.D. on/off and when you should use it. Thanks..

I leave mine off until I get to highway speed. Once I'm crusing along it seems fine and doesn't shift out unless I'm on a big hill. I have the 5.9L and I'm sure the V10 would be easier. Of course I only tow a snowmobile trailer with two sleds on it.

if your towing a light load you can leave the OD on, otherwise, I'd leave it off. the OD units on these trannys are not that great and are prone to failure. towing a heavy load in OD is asking for trouble...

I keep mine off until I hit the Interstate, which I drive to work for 35 miles. Around town and all that I keep it off as well.

Od works great for all the time use if you have the right gearing.... ...4.10's or higher with 31" and up tires will keep the truck in a good RPM range and give you good highway RPMS too Mine ran fine untill I opened the exhaust. Now I am an OD off switcher if I remember to do it when I start it up. Of course I allways use the OD OFF when towing.
