1997 dodge radio

Default 1997 dodge radio

So i have a problem the radio only works when the headlights are turned on any help would be great thanks

Grab the service manual for the 96 truck from the faq section, wiring diagrams are in there.

Is it an aftermarket radio? sounds like the power is hooked up to the wire that lights up the radio with the headlights. Download the service manual that dhvaughn has a link for and trace the supply. The manual kicks a$$. totally need it.

yes aftermarket radio Im the third owner and the person i got it from said it was in there when they got it

If no one hacked up the wires metra makes a plug to use on radios, sounds like you are going to have to pull the bezel and investagate. Also search the web and you will be able to find a radio diagram and make it right. that situation cannot be good for your headlight switch.

It's not to bad just bothers me that i have to have my lights on all the time. plus it just randomly cuts off while Im driving. i will do some investigating when i get home. also i downloaded the manual for the wire diagram. thanks for everyone's help.

also when it randomly cuts off it comes right back on. Im got a new radio and a new connector gonna start there and see what happens.
