Default Overheating Issue

Hey guys i have a problem my truck is over heating. I was having this problem before so i replaced the fan clutch. Now i am having the problem again so i figured it was the thermostat so i replaced that now it still overheating. But its weird cause it'll wait till it gets in between 210 and 260 then it finially drops back back down to 210 but before my truck was running at like 175-180. Any Idea's? Also as long as i am driving with a good amount of air flow it doesn't even get to the 210 mark it stays about 175-180.

You did burp your cooling system after installing the t-stat, right?

Park the nose of the truck on a hill, or anything where you've got a good angle of attack, pull the radiator cap off, and run the truck hot. Just make sure the truck isn't hot when pulling the cap off, for obvious reasons.

Make sure you've got plenty of 50/50 antifreeze nearby too, since you'll have to refill the rad whenever it burps.

No, when I say hot, I mean don't drive it right before you pop the lid, especially since you're running warm as it is.

That's why you should be feeding it coolant the entire time starting from a mostly old engine.

Slingmudd did you test the new tstat in water before you put it in the truck? If burping it doesnt help you may have to get a different thermo. And if you do test it first. I had a batch of three that were not good out of the box.

Burp it and if the problem continues I would start to think either the water pump is shot of there is a blockage in the radiator.
