Not necessarily! My '96 Ram 2500 4x4 has an 46RH transmission.

96 is OBDII, thusly electronic transmission control.

So your truck should have had a RE unless somebody seriously screwed with ****. lol

No, sir. This truck has a 46RH for sure and is an OBDII truck. Many times Dodge has cross over model years and stuff changes mid-year. For certain, this truck has a 46RH from the factory. Also has the switch on the dash for overdrive on/off. I also have a matching 46RH that I've had a HD rebuild done to that I'm going to swap into the truck soon.

Alright then, I stand corrected. But it's still weird.

And all trucks have the OD switch in the dash until 98.

another possibility is the RE got introduced on 1500/46RE in 96, and into 2500-3500/47RE in 97. that crossover/transition occurred again in 02/03 from 2nd gen to 3rd gen.

transmission swapper beware...

Whats the production date on your truck AtomicDog? I have a 96 2500, and I have the RE.

1996 model RAMs are definitely a conversion year for the 46RH vs. 46RE transmissions. My Ram 2500 SLT 4x4 is very early in the '96 model year (production date is 11-95). The PCM is part #56040892 and the truck is OBDII. HeyYou, what is your production date?

11-95 seems a bit new for having the RH, but stuff is weird.

I've got parts on my truck that are dated from 94 for crying out loud! lol
Truck was never in a major accident either.
