i was thinking on swapping out my transmission on my 96 1500 4x4 5.2 with a transmission from a 97 2500. I was thinking about doing this because i was going to get a great deal on the parts truck. I was wondering how the transmission would bolt up to my truck. I was hoping i could swap it with minimal hassle. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

 

I'm pretty sure the transmissions are exactly the same internally.

Bad news bro, it's just another 46RE, unless that 2500 has a manual transmission.


Is the 2500 a stick or auto?

 

Pretty sure its an automatic but it says it has a rebuilt trans....and although the ad doesn't say it im pretty sure its a v10, does that make a difference?

 

Very much so.
A V10 trans WILL NOT bolt up to a 5.2. Hell, either V8 for that matter.

If it's a V10 that probably throws a wrench in the mix, but I'm not 100% sure.

Not sure those will mount up to a V8.

Oh I see so you aren't calling it "heavy duty" for any reason. Oh its a v10 no it wont work.

 

Only if it is currently behind a v-8. The v-10 and diesels use a different bolt pattern.

assuming your 96 1500 is auto with a 5.2, its a 46RH.

you didn't say what the engine was in the 97, but if its a V8 5.9 gasser, like stewie said its just a plain old 46RH. the good news is it'll bolt in.

on the other hand, if its a V10 or 5.9 diesel, it'll be a 47RH. i think? it has a bigger case and won't bolt in.
