Look at the latch mechanism and figure out how it works then figure out how to fix it.

Wow. Thanks.

The problem appears to be everything is in side the seat frame and I really don't want to cut into it if I don't have to.

Your truck is not in front of me and if it were, that's where i would start. Can you see what the release mechanism is attached to? Maybe it just became disconnected or something like that.

Like I said, that's the problem. The latch appears to be inside the seat frame where you can't see it. I'm going to try again tomorrow.

Pull the lever off and see if the splines inside the lever are stripped. If they are make a trip to the junkyard and find another lever. You could probably move it back with a pair of vice grips but you don't want to mess up the splines.

The thing just spins. With vise grips too.

Have you looked in the parts manuals in the FAQ's/DIY/How-to section for an exploded view diagram so you can see what is involved inside the seat?

I looked earlier but I couldn't find anything. Or I'm blind.

contort yourself around, and look at the seat from underneath. The handle operates a cable.... sounds like it has come detached.
