On my last road trip, I got just over 14mpg, and that was with the cruise control locked at 72, so I guess that's pretty good.

72, that's all you guys problems. 55 MPH hits 1600RPM in O/D here, which is where the REAL MPGs are. On the interstate, if we were to go 60MPH in O/D, would run the engine at 2000RPM, but the engine cannot maintain 60 in o/d when it hits a hill. 70 MPH brings the RPMs up to 2300-2500, which is the real gas hog range on a stock 5.9L. Towing at 70MPH is absolute MPG nightmare, as it chose 2nd gear at 4100RPM. Hopefully the manual takes to it better

We must realize although we all have 2nd gen trucks, we all have different set ups, which will effect our MPG being different, I'm sure we have all found the sweet spot in our respective trucks to obtain the best we can. Your figures above may be true for your set up however, those are dependent on gear ratio and tire size. My set up 3.92 gears with 295 tires runs 2000 RPM's @ 72 MPH. Therefore if we both are running the same route at the same speed, for the same distance, our fuel consumption will differ just because we have different gears and tire sizes. I was able to obtain around 14.5 mpg a while back running 75/80 mph. Sure I'm not smoking tires from a dead stop...I don't need to, we all set up our trucks to suit our needs for it. Yet we all average roughly 10-13 mpg some better some worse. Can we now end the MPG madness?
