Default Adjusting Speedo?

Well i've had my 35s mounted and running for the past couple weeks and its got to a point of where seeing the wrong speed on the speedo is quite annoying. since i gotta add 5mph to the actual speed the meter is showing.

now since my speed is off my shift points are retarded, i dont go to over drive until 45-50ish mph and the rpm gauge likes to hover at around 2k.

the dealer told me its 90$ for them to adjust the speedo by means of something in the trans or axle, which i'm sure it can be done that way. but i'm assuming they have a drb3 tool and can set the speed in there as well electronically and save a lot more headache and money labor wise?

i just cant justify $90 at the stealership, so how is the superchips able to adjust speed?

the speedo in your 01 is all electronic, reading from the tone ring in the rear diff.

the only way to correct is by setting a parameter in the pcm called "pinion factor" (i think). the dealer tool will set it, as will a Superchips tuner. I tried hypertech tuner once which claimed it would set it, but it would not, so don't go there.

the dealer cost of $90 seems a little bit high for a 5 minute job. it seems like it ought to be more like 1/2 hour of labor.

the drb setting is in "revolutions per mile". you can find this on the tire manufacturers web site.

no personal experience on setting this, but the story is that the dealer tool has a 3 preset choices for tire size 225, 245, 265. for anything else, they need to navigate to "other" and enter revs-per-mile. on the other hand, the superchips speedo correction is entered as tire diameter.

It's going to be like that everywhere. Standard diagnostic fee is usually around $90-100. Doesn't matter if it's hooked up for 30 seconds or 30 minutes. Remember, they're not in business to help you out, just to make money.

Honestly I wouldnt even worry about it.. The old mans Hemi has been like that since 07 and it is at the point that I can drive without even thinking about difference.. Just automatically know what speed im actually going.

I use the Schips to set wheel diameter. You can get them good price and I'd recommend it, plus the tunes are not too shabby. Mine is dead nuts correct when checking with GPS on the phone.

Also, if you change tire size again....gonna go back to the crapper-ship?

before i paid someone $90+ dollars to set this, i'd buy a superchips for $100+ and do it myself.

make SURE its not VIN locked to a previous vehicle. They'll only work on one truck at a time.
