Default crappy start to the new year

I went to go start my truck today and it was completely dead so I went to jump it and it won't start unless my foot is in the gas and as soon as I let go of the gas it shuts off, any idea what it could be? its a 97 1500 5.9

Just keep your foot on it for a while, let the engine warm some. With the battery stone dead, the PCM will have to re-learn the idle.

If it STILL doesn't wanna idle, clean the throttle body, paying special attention to the IAC well.

Something reasonable like 1500 or less.. No need to bounce it off the limiter..

+1... Just rev it enough to keep it running. Revving a cold engine causes excessive wear.
