Default Code Help

I have a 2000 ram sport 1500 with an automatic trans. This morning it gave me a check engine light so I went down to autozone and had the code pulled.... torque converter lockup or overdrive solenoid. Anyone have any experience with this issue? Thanks in advance

yep, simple fix too. gotta drop the pan to get to it though.the 2 sensors that are in the block that is circled, should be replaced, along with the solenoid that is connected to that big long wire.

its takes about 20~ minutes to replace the parts after the pan is dropped.

look up "electrical advantage" on ebay, they have them for somewhat "cheap" prepare to spend a little over a hundred for the 3 of them. opt for the borg warner solenoid they offer, it is far better than the oem unit.

actually, the one circled is governor pressure solenoid. The two that are buried a bit deeper are TCC, and O/D. They are a tad more fun to get to.

Can either of you guys tell me what causes these to fail? As of last night my OD was working. Is this an age issue? Possible causes?
Thanks so much for all the excellent advice.

They are electrical parts that hang out in a rather warm environment.... (especially in a rock crawler.... ) they are prone to failure in any event.

Before tearing into it though, might wanna check all the connections at the trans, and PCM. They like to give some issues as well. (shorting wires, corroded terminals, etc.)

Also they tend to get clogged from fine particles in tranny fluid.

+1 on replacing the all, and Electrical Advantage is a very good supplier. I have purchased a number of these form them (for resale locally) and +1 on getting the BW Gov Solenoid. Costs a little more, but well worth it. I drove my truck 200 miles to mu son;s house with OEM solenoid, and changed it out there (with tranny still warm) and then drove it home right away Noticeable improvement in hifting on return trip.

After pulling Gove sensor and solenoid, OD and TCC are easy to access (2 screws IIRC).

Change fluid (ATF+4 only) and filter.
