Default I need a little help with a noise.

To start, im new to the forum so im not quiet sure how to post. i have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.2 v8
The reason why i need help is every time i accelerate and its get around 45 mph and my rpm sets around 2k, i have a noise coming from the engine compartment. its not a constant noise, its very iregular, almost a popping. and it only happens around these conditions. pretty much want to know what it is so i can get it fixed

Does it sound like a can of marbles?? If so, probably detonation. Check the end all be all plenum thread at the top of the 2nd gen tech section.

Spark knock. Your plenum (intake manifold) gasket is probably blown. Running higher octane gas should make it stop until you get the gasket replaced.
Your upstream o2 sensor and catalytic converter are probably not in the best shape either because a blown plenum gasket lets oil get into the cylinders and the o2/cat aren't designed to be coated in oil.

a temporary fix for spark knock/pinging is to run higher octane gas. top off with 91 or 92 octane and see if it improves any.

Great, thanks for the help i really appreciate it, i did some research on it and it doesnt look to hard to replace, just need the right tools, and should take a couple days tops, thanks again for the help.

So i went out to my truck because you mentioned oil, so i pulled the dip stick and there was absolutley no oil, kinda blew my mind. so i added oil and i bought the new gasket. thanks again for the help. should be replacing it this weekend. truck saver.

It should be a half day project. Changetimeing set for double roller, t stat, and water pump while you are in that deep.
