Default Axle Gearing

So I am somewhat confused. Gearing wise, what is a lower axle ratio, one with a higher number? I have 3.5s right now. Is that a fair towing ratio?

Yes the lower the gear the higher numerical number. Depending on tire size 3.55's are ok.

For hauling hay like you do and you want more grunt get a different gear set.. 4.10s would be nice for the extra get up.. if you have slightly larger tires go with 4.56... 3.55 pretty much suck in every way

Notice I said 3.5 not 3.55. so when I upgrade the axles I'll probably put 4.10s in it. Right now it's got 265s on it.

So if I change axle ratio do I need to change the VSS or something?

But it is 3.55....... Regardless, 3.55 is designed for general in town and highway driving and not towing or low end.....

So even if on the equipment sheet under the hood it says 3.5 it is 3.55? Just want to be sure.

Look at build sheet. The 3.5 is close enough, but it is rounded off (down). Difference is negligible,
