Default No Overdrive, Code P0783

Here's one for ya hopefully someone can shed some light on...

1999 Ram 1500
5.2L V8
44RE trans

A few months ago i noticed that my overdrive would come and go.. when i would jump on the interstate sometimes i would have it, others i would not.. After a few days i got a check engine light and i went to autozone to get the codes pulled... P0783, P1757

What i replaced so far......

*Battery
*Brake Petal Switch
*Output Speed Sensor (trans tail)
*Gov Pressure Sensor/Transducer (borg werner upgrade)
*Lock Up Solenoid
*Overdrive Solenoid
*Lock Up/ Overdrive Solenoid Wire Harness
*Transmission Relay
*Fresh filter and Valvoline synthetic ATF+4

With all of these repairs the P1757 code has cleared, but still have P0783!

Being that it was working on and off , then went caput leads me to think that it would almost have to be something electrical causing the issue. Doing more reading i have found that it might be possible that it is caused by a bad rear wheel sensor...

So my question is, could the rear wheel sensor be the culprit? where should i look at next?

BTW the trans guy at the stealership said about running LubeGard transmission flush though it and replace the ATF again as there may be some dirt in there causing something to stick... i am a huge ANTI-additive guy and don't put anything in there except fluid.. have anyone ever used LubeGard?

Check the connections up at the PCM. The solenoid for O/D should always have power with the engine running, PCM just provides ground path. As a test, you could install a switch on the control circuit, and manually engage O/D..... would tell you if it was a trans, or PCM problem anyway.

You really have a 44RE? I'd figure it was a 46RE?

Ok why would you want a Jeep transmission in your truck?? They are weaker than the 46re and 90% of the jeep guys want a 46re in their truck cause of this... Someone wasnt thinking when they did this swap..

A rear wheel speed sensor wouldnt cause this.. You would have an ABS and brake light on if that were the issue.. Problem is somewhere else.. Do as HeyYou stated and go from there.. Might have to go back into the trans to see whats going on.. Checking the OD solenoid and look for any metal shavings or something out of the normal.

Could it possibly be a 46/48RE combo that they upgraded to?

Doesn't look like a 44RE was even an option for that truck from the factory. Been interesting to learn how one got in there, unless someone put a 44RE in.

The 44re generally came behind jeep 5.2 318's.. The 5.9's had the 46re.. No Dodge Ram came with a 44re in it.. The 44re can be bolted up to a 318 but that is just nonsense because they are weaker than a 46re.. It is possible to put it in a Ram but it is not a wise decision...
