Default 01 dodge ram radio problems

I have a 01 dodge ram i put an aftermarket cd player in it. At first when i hooked up the cd player my dash lights went out and wouldnt come on. i changed the fuse for the dash lights and the dash lights work now.
but when i turn the lights on the radio shuts off. also when i turn the radio up past 22 it cuts on and off. Does anyone know what might be causing this??? please help

Have you checked to make sure it's wired right and all the grounds are well connected?

Sounds to me like you have totally fubar'd the wiring if your blowing fuses. Cutting out at high volumes could be caused by using too thin a wire gauge for the power maybe? Is this something you are experienced at all with Did the original radio work without problems?

the speaker wires are hooked correctly. i have the yellow wire to yellow the red wire to red and i have the orange which is illumination connected o the ground wires. i have the install kit but i lost the directions along time ago. if i hook the orange wire up to anything else but the ground it either dosnt work or it will keep the dash lights on all the time no matter if i switch them on or when i turn the lights on the radio shuts off and wont come back on untill i turn the lights off but if the orange isnt hooked up the radio wont work

So wiring it by individual wire? Might need to grab a wiring diagram for the truck to make sure the truck wiring matches the radio wiring.

I tried to wire a cdplayer in a Toyota once wire by wire, didn't work, car colors didn't match up to the radio colors.

The FSM available on this site for free will tell the factory wire colors on the truck side and the radio should have the diagram on it, also the web site for the plug will have its orientation.
