Default crank sensor hitting flywheel

i have a 1996 1500 4x4 5.2L with the nv3500 5 speed transmission. i put a new crank sensor(broke it) in about 6 years ago when i pulled the transmission and just recently started loosing tach signal and the motor would die or miss. i pulled the crank sensor out and it looks like the flywheel had been rubbing the sensor and the new sensor wont bolt up right because it acts like its hitting the flywheel. What could have changed to cause it to just now start hitting the flywheel because when i had the transmission out about 10000-15000 miles ago it was still fine. someone please give me some ideas, its my only transportation, i have to be back at work tuesday. btw the sensor is the bwd sensor from advanced auto

May have bent it when pulling the trans.... Mount it up with the trans out of the way (if you haven't put it back in yet), and make sure you have clearance.

Well I pulled the old senspr because it kept shutting down on me if I drove more than 25 min or so and found that it was hitting the sensor. Advanced has a lifetime warranty so I rxchanged it and the new on seams like it wants to hit the flywheel also. When I originally got the last senaor it was good for like 6-7 years and like 70000 miles...

Did the new one look exactly like the onld one (before flywheel) or was it a different length? May need to shim it out some.

didnt compare them super close, but they looked the same length and everything, only thing i can think of is the bend of the bracket is a tiny bit different, but would it work just bending the bracket a lil to move the sensor forward so that it just clears the flywheel?

Just don't move it out too far, or you will get intermittent signal. I don't know what the tolerance range is.

did you make sure you got the one for a standard transmission? it is hard to tell from the pictures on rockauto but it looks like the automatic CPS is longer than a standard CPS

Its suppose to be the one for a manual unless the part number was wrong. Ended up shimming it up a lil and bending the bracket in and so far it seams to be running fine for about 25-30 min guess time will tell. Any idea of what the measurements of the two are?

Default Cps

I went out to the garage & measured a new one (non-Mopar) and got 3 & 13/16 from the inside of the bend to the tip. Mine would be for a automatic trans.
