Most maximum frustration. Aftermarket stereo with Infinity.
Hello. I am to the most maximum point of being frustrated with this. I have looked all over the web and found no solution that worked.
I have a '97 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie with the Infinity speaker system. I bought a wire harness from Wal-mart and went to work. I matched all the wires together fine, but I did notice one thing. I had an extra plain blue wire that didn't match that said "power antenna" which I don't have, so I taped it off. I also have another wire that didn't match the aftermarket stereo's harness, it was a plain orange one labeled "dash illumination". Either way, the new stereo powered up fine. ONE problem: one speaker works and the rest are all scratchy.
Now, I had this same exact head unit in the truck before, and it worked perfect. I swapped it out with my girlfriend's car and went back to stock for awhile. Now, she has a new head unit and I went to put this one back in, and I run into this problem.
Also, I tried taking that plain blue wire and splicing it to the blue/white wire on the aftermarket's harness, still nothing. I know that the Infinity system has an internal amp for each speaker, so I know this is the issue.
No, the speakers aren't blown, I thought I messed them up at first, but the stock stereo runs them perfectly fine.
HELLLLP!

Sorry for the double post, but I just remembered something. I bought the right wire harness (it said 94-01 Dodge Ram), but it said nothing about Infinity. I think the one I bought before said Infinity on the back.
Could the wrong harness be the issue? I'm at a dead end here.

Yeah, that's why I'm so frustrated. I posted in two different areas on this board and no one has replied.
I'm thinking I may have the wrong harness, because it didn't say anything about the Infinity system on back, just had the right make/model.
Still searching Google for it.

to narrow ur frustrations, when i was doin my radio, i was told if i did have the infinity system, that i could just cut the wires for the amps and the speakers would work just fine. i dont have the infinity system but its worth a shot just to see if thats the problem. if its not, just reconnect the wires and ur back at square one

redneck_ram is correct. The amp wire he refers to is just a trigger to turn on the infinity door amps, and just needs to be connected to a switched 12v source. Your new head unit's power antenna wire will provide the switched 12v.
DO NOt use the power antenna wire there should be a blue/white wire for the amp that is constant power when the radio is on
the power antenna wire will only power the amps when on am/fm because it is ment to raise or lower the antenna only on am/fm when on cd,usb, aux it will turn the amps off due to the antenna is soposed to be in the down position
