It is a good idea to check band adjustment. Do you have the service manual from the FAQ/DIY section? Follow instructions EXACTLY....

did the work today and I did not have the proper tools to do the band adjustment so I skipped it, hope I am not making a mistake. The original solenoid was not the Borg solenoid and the original transducer was not gold in color, so happy I upgraded those. I found the 3-4 accumulator spring was broke, so I replaced that with the upgrade. I also found a piece of what looks like snap ring on the magnet. Other than that just the normal black clutch material. Cleaned everything really well and put it back together. I did not think the parts would be here so fast so I did not pick up any tranny fluid from the dealer; will do that tomorrow. Hope that chunk in the pan doesn't screw me. Let me know your thoughts on the chunk of metal. pics

Don't buy fluid from the dealer. They will rape you. Just get it from the local parts store. So long as it says "ATF +4" on it, it'll work just fine.

Yep, O/D snap ring. Small piece, so, the majority of it is still in there..... some folks go for years without worrying about it, others have their O/D blow apart...... You can pull JUST the O/D section, and replace that.... (if you have a press....) or, just rebuild it while you have it out... Or, see how long it lasts as is. On You.

went ahead and got the fluid from the dealer (it took 6 quarts) thought they only held 4; no leaks anywhere, but I had the pan off awhile while doing repairs. I did not adjust the bands, did not adjust the TV cable, and did not take out the check valve yet. NO CHANGE, STILL SHIFT LIKE **** out of first.

See if a local tranny shop will check pressures for you. Or, if you have a scanner, watch and see what pressures are doing, while SOMEONE ELSE drives.....

what tool do you need to do the band adjustment? I have a inch pound torque ratchet, but it looks like this solely takes a box end wrench and I did not have a crows foot that small. Any ideas?

I had the same shifting problem and replaced the speed sensor on top of the rear differential. Took about 15 minutes and the problem went away immediately.
Does yor speedometer hang up until 20+ MPH?

A small 8-point socket would work on the end as well. (band adjustment.)
