Anybody know what the actuall difference between 1500 and 2500/3500 steering is?

2001s can't do the HD crossover without a bunch of fabrication

So this guy says the tie rod studs just need to be 14mm

http://www.rme4x4.com/showthread.php...eering-upgrade

And the moog parts says it's M14
Plus it lists all the rams as applicable

http://www.moog-suspension-parts.com...od=MOOG-ES3527

So what other parts of the crossover do I need to check to see if it'll fit

I replaced my driver side ball joints, a bad tie rod, and a sway bar end link. It drives much better now.

BUT my steering column is loose as all get out. I can turn it a good 15 degrees each direction. I can see it moving in the gear box too. I just replaced that thing too

Rocksolid thing time? Or what?

If the wheel actually moves down to the box, but the box doesn't move the steering.... box is bad. The stock replacements really aren't any better than the worn box that was originally on there. Only really good solution is redhead, or borgeson box.

How can i tighten the column anyway?

There shouldn't be any slop in the column..... if there is, you REALLY need to find it, and fix it. Got tilt wheel?

yep got tilt wheel. So I guess the slop is either from the column itself or a bad box. Could be both i guess also

Columns rarely go bad. Rag joint on the intermediate shaft is a common problem though. (at least, on vehicles that have one... don't recall if the dodge does or not...) Joints in the intermediate shaft are not all that rare either..... have someone else move the wheel, while you look for the slop. See what moves that shouldn't, and what doesn't move, that should..

Bump this thread. My steering wheel feel is terrible now.

Here the updates, I have finished my front dana 60 swap and I have the 8.5 steering upgrade(please dont snap off tie rod ends). When i first went to drive it i noticed a couple things

First- it tracks straight as an arrow now. I need an alignment but it still tracks straight. And I need to recenter my steering wheel but thats beyond the point.

Second- I have a massive clunk in my steering wheel now. I think I finally pushed some bushing over the limit when I used the steering to remove a stuck wheel bearing assembly. I had a slight clunk before I did everything but now it much more pronounced. There even seems to be some play, not present before the swap, where there is no engagement of the steering until after it clunks.

I can live with a little play in the steering wheel until i can get a redhead box. But this clunk is diving me crazy and doesnt make me feel safe.

I plan on ordering the rock solid ram steering today, i can move steerring column sideways at least a quarter of an inch.

What else can i do to check the steering column?

I just dont have any money to lay down for a new box or steering shaft at the moment.
