If they are standard Dana 44 (non rubicon like OP said) why wouldn't they work? I don't pay much attention to jeep crap, forgive my ignorance. I know the JK-44's are different. OP are they still dana 44 gears?

That's why I asked the OP if they were still 44 gears. Some early Cherokees and Comanches had a 44 rear end with the tow package. Also some cj-7's got 44's out back I think. Many of the FSJ's (Wagoneers, J-trucks, full size Cherokees) had 44's also. That's why I was asking for more info.

I may have misunderstood what jeep they were out of. If its a dana 44 standard rotation front set from any of these, they will work.

cj-6 71-75

comanche 86-92

grand wagoneer 84-91,93

j-10 67-88

wagoneer 74-92

Is there a difference in standard rotation front and rear gears?

If I'm thinking correctly, you can physically put a rear set in a front axle. You'll just be driving the ring gear on the coast side, which reduces the strength of the ring gear by about 20%.

Low pinion diffs all use stardard rotation gears. Thats why low pinion frints are weaker than high pinions, which use reverse rotation gears. Standard rotation gears are the same front or rear.

You'll also need a thick gear for your axle. Front 44 carrier can only go 3.92, before you have to use thick gear. Otherwise you will need to change a whole new carrier.
Don't even bother using some stuff that might work. Get the right parts from the start and you'll have no problem. Go to Randy's Ring and Pinion site and do little research on your axle.
