my 99 dodge 3/4 ton turbo diesel 4x4 has chewed up my ft brake rotors bad... need to replace both ft, do the actual brake rotor un bolt from the hub without having to pull all the 4x4 hub parts out? was told they unbolt from the rear? HELP!!!!!!

 

You have to pull the wheel bearing hub assembly. No way around it. Center axle nut, then the four twelve point bolts that hold the hub assembly on. Once you've got it out, Then you can remove the rotor from the hub assembly.

Tip:
Using an socket extension to wedge between the bolt head that holds the wheel bearing hub assembly in place ONCE ITS HALWAY UNTHREADED and the axle itself and utilizing the power steering to "press" the bearing hub assembly out is the best way that I've found without damaging it. If you pry on the rotor to hub flange to try to get it out, you'll be buying a new wheel bearing assembly.

 

Rotors are 'staked' to the hub assembly by the lug studs. Once you have it all off the axle, gotta knock out the lug studs to separate the rotor. Reinstalling can be fun.... I HIGHLY recommend air tools for that exercise.

 

I made use of an air hammer. When all else fails, a good dead blow works too without damaging the studs

I agree, when my truck was a 2wd, brakes were MUCH easier to work on! Cheaper too.
