Default All Over The Road

I have a 98 dodge 1500 with 5" lift suspension and 315/75/16 tires. When I bought the truck it was all over the road, constantly trying to keep the wheels straight after driving on uneven road and bumps. Replaced all the shocks and track bar last summer. That made a big difference and it was a pleasure to drive. You could even enjoy the scenery looking to the side and not worried about swaying side to side. for those who have this problem know what I'm talking about. The steering wheel doesn't wobble, just the swaying. Now this swaying is starting to come back. Track bar is only good for 7 months? I never replaced the double shock dampers. Could this be the cause or what else is there? Or this is common for being a lifted truck and big tires and there is no cure?

You might check your ball joints. My truck (not lifted) does the same thing and I know the ball joints are bad.
What brand of track bar did you invest in?

Lifted truck will magnify any steering issues. Check ALL parts for slop, replace what needs to be. You have a drop bracket for the track bar?? Make sure that is tight as well.

Lifted trucks with bigger tires is a combination that not only magnifies steering issues but also increases strain and wear on steering and chassis components (Even parts of the drive train like U-Joints). This happens because you're basically giving leverage to the forces that the the steering and suspension components already have to battle during normal operation. Buying quality parts for a lifted truck is a MUST. If you cheap out when replacing components like your track bar or other steering components THEY WILL FAIL. Spend the extra money for ones that come with a lifetime warranty, and throw the receipt in the glove box or center console.

Read the fine print on the warranty though, a fair few of them WON'T COVER modified trucks... (lifts, larger tires, etc.)

Well you don't tell them it's going into a lifted truck!

Found out that it was the inexpensive track bar. I was now told that I was lucky to get 7 months out of it. Warranty was good for a year so they took it back and I bought the moog track bar. Haven't installed it yet. Thanks guys for your input.

What track bar did you use? Bd Diesel makes one with poly bushings instead of a ball joint that is much better.

I installed the Moog track bar and that fixed the problem.
