Default 2.5" R/C leveling kit with stock front shocks - big no no?

Hi all,

I'm looking at picking up the rough country leveling kit for my '97 4x4 because my 305-70-17's rub slightly at full steering angle. From what I've read it seems okay to leave the rear suspension alone when doing front coil spacers, but is it alright to reuse the front shocks with the coil spacers? Curious to hear your opinions. Thanks!

Nick

Yes stock shocks are fine. Take a look at the HBS 2.5" lift, its a few bucks less than RC and comes with a cool HBS sticker.

If you are rubbing on the control arms at full lock, lift won't help.

What will help is drilling and tapping the lugs cast into your steering knuckles so you can install a pair of bolts for adjustable steering stops. While this will cut your steering circle slightly you won't be hitting your arms anymore.

My tires actually don't rub on the control arms, just a small bit on the rearward end of the inside of the wheel well. I was thinking about removing some material from the plastic cover but I figured it would be better to keep it intact. If I ever have any issues rubbing on the control arms, I will know what to do.

Use a heat gun and remold it (plastic liner) so the tires fit.

Never thought of that, but I don't have a heat gun. Good tip.

I drilled and tapped my knuckles while they were off the truck (ball joints).
