Repair the plenum, replace timing set with double roller set, HS rockers, e-fans, new water pump and tstat, tune form www.hemifevertuning.com, replace heater core if needed, and what dow the dash look like?

Probably need new shocks, check u joints and brakes....(enough to start....)

Dash has normal cracks but I just figured it'd be hard to find a dash with out cracks so I just assumed to epoxy the cracks then through a dash cover over it. I really don't want to spend more than 2000 on the rebuild. I don't need a lot of torque cuz I'm not going to be doing heavy hauling or pulling maybe a flat bed with a jeep on it to the ohv or something once in a blue moon but that's about as far as it would go.

Get the long block best bet in my op, deal with the plenum, the cat and it should last a long time.

+1. That is a sound approach, but putting a used timing set and water pump on is not. That will only add about $100 or so to the job. So at least consider doing that! Oops... New oil pump. Does the long block include that?

the only thing that would stop me from getting the $550 junkyard engine, is that it will still (soon) need a water pump, timing chain and plenum fix. that's about $300, so now we're pushing a $1000 bucks again.

If he is lucky that's all it would need, chances are it will need more work and parts. A good long block should also have a warranty.

The one I can get at advance is a bare long block comes with timing needs a water pump and an oil pump then put the stuff off my block on the new long block. The only new parts I would need are those 2. Comes with a 2 year warranty but its a spartan engine and I haven't heard good things about them

I know nothing about Spartan rebuilds maybe someone else will chime in that has experience with them. Two year warranty is good, so kinda don't matter about there rep just get another one from them if the first don't work out right.

I heard from several customers that I have sold them to end up battling warranty issues in court cuz they give them the run around. Anyone know of a good place to order a reman.
