Default 1999-2000 Ram 1500 Wheel Bearings

im new to this forum, and my truck needs the wheel bearings replaced but the shop im brought the truck to is charging me $420 to do the job (parts, labor, hours) to replace my 2 front wheel bearings, is that a good price for that or am i getting ripped off? and i would also want to know if dodge changed their wheel bearing/hub design between the 1999-2000 model years. thanks for the help.

It looks like part numbers are different for '99 and '00 models, just get one that fits your truck.

Looking at RockAuto, the hub/bearing assembly can be had for $42 each if you have 2 wheel abs and 4wd. 4WAL abs hubs cost a bit more. I remember when I bought a hub assembly from Napa it was $192 for one...

$420 isn't really a great deal, considering if you have 2 wheel abs you can do the job yourself for under $100

I just had a hub assembly put on my truck (bearings where shot), part (DuraLast) cost $107 and it cost me $22.50 to have a shop put it on

It's not a very difficult job.

That would be the best option as it gives you the opportunity to learn as well!

+1 here, the experience that can be had by doing your own work is invaluable. It makes me sick if I have to pay a shop or a dealer to do ANYTHING on my truck or any of my family's cars. When you do a job yourself, you can make sure that no shortcuts are taken and that nothing gets "rigged"

I believe they did, but 2wd and 4wd are different also.

Do it yourself or have someone show you since you'll be doing it again in the future.
