Default 2001 Ram 1500 Neutral Drops Itself???

I'm posting this for a buddy, bone stock ram 1500 (2001) off road edition with 35" toyo MT's (stock gears) 120k miles. When starting off from a stop it rolls forward slowly and when you press the gas it revs up and once it gets to about 3000 rpm it seems like it drops itself into 1st...like a neutral drop? anyone have this issue?? He claims that it just started doing this within the last few days and I believe him. Anyone have ideas? I'm wondering about a gov. and pressure sensor in the trans maybe??

Probably a safe bet. Wouldn't hurt to drop the pan, and see if there is anything interesting in there. Can inspect things while you are there.
