My point is that the whole question is silly. "OMG my friend has a newer and more powerful truck and I want to beat him." I wish my biggest problem was if I should spend a couple grand to make a 20 year old truck faster than a 4 year old truck for bragging rights. LOL.

Throw some gears in the back, you may not beat him in the 1/2 mile with lower gears. But off the line and 1/4 miles you will hand it to him.

I had a cherokee with 4.56 gears, and buddy has a mustang GT. I would stick some smaller tires(30s) on the cherokee (has 35s) and I would be gone. Take off like a rocket ship

Off line AND 1/4 mile with better gears... But all this seems silly. trucks are trucks. Not go fast machines.

youre looking at close to 3k in parts, and another 500-1k in small items.
There used to be a guy on here that threw a bunch of money at his truck in the short time he was here and went to a shop with a dyno a few times while he was at it. He gained something like 70hp just by replacing the heads. I could see your combo putting out near 270ish once it gets to the ground.
Since you're going to be doing what you're doing with the truck already then you might want to think about throwing an off road y-pipe on your list if it isn't already on it with the "appropriate exhaust", it's been said on here that they make a big difference in exhaust flow.

Just putting on a set of eddy aluminum heads and a small cam will get you 130hp gain add some more parts and hp and tq numbers will go up even farther. These motors respond well to mods, have a very strong lower end most parts on/in it will support up to 500hp even the crappy heads with work will go that high. All it takes is cash and the right combo of parts and big hp/tq numbers can be reached. As for putting a hemi in a second gen truck not me, the Hemi's have there own share of problems.

How to add 129hp to a Magnum motor.

You will need to really beef up that 5.9 in your rebuild to hang in there though. The typical hot rod stuff... better heads, higher compression pistons, better rockers, cam.... Then of coarse you will need a retune on your PCM. I think Hemifever is the guy to talk to on that. From what I have heard, he can make your PCM run most any parameters you want.
Isn't the hemifever tune only '96 and newer? His is '94. I could have this mixed up with something else though....
