With the 4:10's, I have had much better luck with gas mileage with my 285/70/17's. I am getting around 14 ~ 15mpg, and I drive my truck like a total idiot. With the 265/70/17's, I got 11mpg if I was lucky.

I have a straight through exhaust system right now, with no mufflers or cats, and I haven't noticed any loss of bottom end. I did notice a decent gain in the top end, however. I also have the kegger modified, so that may have helped a bit as well.

I have done a lot of research on the gears and that will be the first thing I do. I feel sure it will help.

Make what you have now run good, then start doing improvements. Gears being right near the top of the list. In order to benefit from said improvements though, gotta be runnin' right to begin with.

Modifying the kegger moves the power band up a couple hundred RPM. Of course, along about 4K or so, (higher for 318) the kegger starts running out of breath anyway. Just a product of the intake design.

Sell it and buy a Cummins... Much easier to get power out of.. More reliable.. Better fuel mileage... Just do it

I gotta see what kind of money I can make this summer, and how much I could get for my truck before I buy a cummins. I did a 0-60 today and got 11 seconds. Got the video, I may upload it if anyone is interested in seeing. I think gears are my number one priority right now.

If cash is tight, as it is for alot of us, I would start hunting a good 5.9 I bought a complete, fully dressed 5.9 with harness and PCM for $150. Thats pretty cheap as far as horsepower goes. I am going to rebuild it, but it would have ran as I recieved it. Its a bolt in swap and you already have almost everything you need. Just find a 5.9 PCM and go for it. Just try to find something with lower miles and swap it in. Also, your milage may stay about the same or even improve a little, being as the 5.9 wont have to work as hard as your 5.2 to move your truck.

This sounds like a good plan. I like the idea. Cash is tight.
