Default 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 wont move(auto 5.9).

Driving home the truck made a loud clunk. Being less then a block from my home I processed to drive it, it made several loud clunking noises and lunged. I parked it now it wont move at all. Tried 2wd and 4wd fwd and rev with no success. Any suggestions where to start would be greatly appreciated?

Checked the transmission fluid? Your driveshafts still there?? Kind of a weak description of things.. Have you checked anything at all? My guess would be your trans has decided to go boom...

As high as that truck sets you should be able to slide on a creeper and visually check everything under the truck for a problem, do some feeling around and twisting some u-joints etc., block the wheels and put truck in nuetral. If nothing start by jacking up the front end and turning the wheels then do the same on the rear=process of elimination.

Pulled back diff cover, ring gear is tooth-less, lots of metal laying in the bottom. Truck is dead in the water for a while.
