Without wanting to look back in the thread, I see one at least(in your sig) has had the plenum replaced. What about the other one? And do both trucks have new cat(s)gutted or whatever, and o2's ?

Default Transmission 99 dodge ram 5.2

Transmission was rebuilt on my 99 ram 1500 and now it wont shift into fourth. (Overdrive) doesnt matter how fast i go. Doesng matter if i let off the gas or tap the brakes. Truck goes 1 - 2 - 3 - torque conv lockup.

You should probably start your own thread to avoid confusion.

Put all the important info in the thread too.

I've only had the 01 for two months. Still has factory plenum gasket. Replaced plugs, wires dist cap/rotor. Original 02's with 59,000 mi on truck now. Changed out differental fluid and trans/ filter. 13 years old.

Got it's first oil change today, since I've had it. The dealer sticker said was done about 2200 miles ago. I'm not imagining, but out driving around this evening it sure felt like it had more power in that 50 to 70mph range, while in OD. And your'e right, this thread is getting to long.

so I'll ask just one more thing. What would be the most efficient way to get an all stock 5.2 to have more low end torque feel like the 5.9? Or am I just spinning my wheels? No pun!

ReadRam, he did not mean your thread is getting too long, he was referring to someone else posting their problem in your thread. For some of us that are old, this confuses the crap out of us and we may not differentiate the fact that someone else is posting with similar, but sometimes different syptoms. That person has taken the advice and started his own thread. It just helps keep from confusing things...

So the 01 still has original plenum gasket - can we assume you checked and it appears to be good?

What feels like being sluggish - is it abmormal feeling, like missing or bogging on low end? If not, maybe a tune from SCT will perk it up some. But I would check TV cable adjustment and a few other things as well. My 5.2 - I cannot compare it to a 5.9, but one thing it is not - sluggish.

I didn't pull the throttle body but used only 1/3 of a qt of oil in over 2200 miles and absolutely no ping even on 87, but I use 91 octane without ethanol anyway. The sluggish point is when I get up in the 55 mph range while in overdrive and want to bring her up to 70/75mph. Give it some more pedal and it's flat until it downshifts and then goes wheeee up to 70 real quick , just don't like all the downshifting every time hit an overpass on the interstate. And I'm comparing it to my 99 with the 5.9,which, is my work truck and has a 18ft rack(400lbs easy) for carrying doors and lot of other weight in box. The old 5.9 loaded works less than my 5.2 with no load or rack wind resistance. Eventually was going to make the 01 my new work truck, but what's it going to do if I add all the weight from old truck? And yes I can get used to playing with OD button, just hasn't been needed. A rebuild would've been an idea, but my 99 is pretty banged up. I don't know what to do, but have time. One idea was regearing the 01.

Stop comparing and check the plenum, cat and o2's.

Cat is doing it's job. Checked with infra -red thermometers jobs and it has fair amount of water leaking from seep hole in muffler, depending on outside temps. 02's probably could be replaced as maintenance, got 60,000mi on them. And plenum, not having any of the symptoms of blown gasket.
My original question was specifically about transmission shift points and OD performance other's had with their 5.2 rams, since my last 5.2 was back in the 90's. And happily, it feels like a different truck after an oil change yesterday, go figure! Thanks all!

Lots of things can effect shift points. Plenum is one of them as it effects vacuum. Also O2 sensor, exhaust flow, etc. I also wonder about TPS condition.

Since I got this 01 Jan,18 this year, I have actually changed the TPS. Had it to very reputable trans shop and driven with their MT-2500 scanner hooked up and all ok. Plus pulled pan and was squeaky clean. They did find bad mechanical clutch and replaced, wasn't slipping at higher rpm's. New differential fluid, again 13 years old.

What has made the biggest difference is getting the first oil change yesterday. It has more power all the way up, even into OD and past. I can't explain that and almost don't dare post it, but it is was it is, like night and day difference. Dealer sticker said it was changed about 2200mi ago.

And I learned that tcc lockup occurs after 3rd gear shift and rpm's drop 200 or 300, then OD or 4th. And am just enjoying the ride now.
Thanks gdstock for following along with twist and turns.
