Default 5.2 to 5.9 Engine Swap/Tranny Questions???

Ok I have read thru a ton of threads about on here and a few other Mopar sites and am still confused and not positive about this.

So here is my question.......................................... ............:confuse d:
I am swapping out my 5.2 engine in my Jeep to a 5.9 and want to make sure I am doing this correctly. A 5.2 is internally balanced and a 5.9 is externally balanced. I hope I have that right.
So when going from a 5.2 to a 5.9 you need to have the 5.9 flex plate? Is that correct? And then if I get a stroker kit that is internally balanced I just need to keep my 5.2 flex plate? I think I got this right.

So please if I am incorrect please set me on the balanced path....

Pretty much, although, you have to keep in mind, that 95 and older 5.9's had the balance weights on the torque converter (auto trans).... So, keep in mind the year engine you are dealing with as well. Make sure you have the correct parts on there.

HeyYou,
Yes my 5.9 is newer than a 95. I was just out in the garage looking at the flex plate and it does have weights on it. I don't remember the exact year of the engine but I know it was a 97 or newer. So now I just need to hang onto the 5.2 flex plate for when I do the strocker. At that time I will also have to change the hermonic balancer too cause it the 5.9 one has weights in it too correct? It gets confusing sometimes.

Thanks for your help.

You need the harmonic balancer, flex plate and maybe torque converter for a 360.

Now see Zman your confusing the subject here. When is the maybe on the torque converter? Before 95 like HeyYou said? Also I didn't throw the HB into my first post because if you got a used engine a lot of times it has one on it already. I lucked out and the used engine I bought had the flex plate on it too. And like I said it does have weights in it.

Pretty much need to know year of engine and tranny. Go to TC website and see if part numbers are the same or different. That's how I would do it anyway....
