Default How do I remove the Heater Return Hose from Old Water Pump

I have done a lot of searching, Youtube watchin' and so on, and I can't see what I am missing.

I am talking about the 6" steel hose lead on the water pump. The hole for the tube on the new water pump is smooth. RTV is around the hole on the old one. Instructions just refer to the fact I need a new O-ring (came with new pump). the Youtube and DIY Thread just kind of gloss over that part.

I am probably thinking about it too much. Do I just yank it out with out destroying it, stick the O-ring in, a little rtv and jam the hose into the new pump in the new pump?

All help greatly appreciated!

It comes out it just needs some serious convincing. Ive done 2 myself and watched a friend do one and every time without fail that 6 inch metal pipe is rusted and crappy. Just go get a new one if thats the case because if its not completely round when you put it back in it might leak..

+1 on replace if it gets damaged. its not expensive. mine has o-ring only to seal and no RTV.

put vaseline on the new o-ring before shoving it in.

I also deburred the hole it goes into just a bit at the top edge, so it wouldn't cut the O-ring on insertion.

My new (Gates) water pump just arrived today... it came with the tube, 'O'-ring, and gasket.
Whilst the initial glance gave an impression of being a well made pump, I'll be sure to check for burrs.

Removing the tube was a piece of cake. I thought about getting anew one, but the local dealer quoted m $48. Ouch. mad eme a whole lot more motivated to get it out. A lot of tado about nothing. Pliers didn't crush it, and it twisted right out. fit right into the new pump with a new O-Ring

Parts stores have 'em for 15, or less. They are in the 'help' section.
