intake bolts that I've encountered (mopar tty) are not threaded to the head..

there are a good number of people who've used grade 5 and grade 8 bolts on the intake manifold with no ill effects.. I think it is the 408 dakota guy who comes here often who uses and has reused grade 5's there.. i reckon the trick is what compound of thread lock used, and then getting a wet bolt to torque correctly.. the dry TTY are pretty easy to get in right.. but, all that said, the intake bolts from mopar are without doubt absolutely tty..

insofar as head bolts- there ain't no way I'd use hardware store bolts.. the tensile strength of those things is questionable no matter the grade.. they are shear strength capable, but not designed for constant high pressure stretch.. once they stretch the tiniest amount, that is their 'new' tensile strength.. they are far too deep in the engine to hafta get to if you gotta replace them, unless you do them one by one on a known good gasket.. which is something that would scare me to do- though a lot of folks actually stud their heads in just that way..

I cleaned mine up and reused them after careful inspection. Have not had any problems yet, just please dont use hardware store bolts to hold the heads on.

So what kind of bolts do the Hughes plenum kit and others come with? I don't remember if they were threaded to the head or not, but I only torqued to 144 in./lbs. I know the original bolts seemed "warped" near the bottom threads..theres no way i would reuse those especially since one broke off in the head. I hope the kit came with the correct hardware! They are nice and shiny though
