Default Rough Idle question

As some of you know I have been on this project to get better MPG, Performance, reliability and learn about my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l 4x4.

So far, I have replaced the plenum, purchased 245/75/16 tires, complete tune-up and fluid swaps to amsoil, replaced IAC, TPS, pre-cat o2 and removed the CAT and single piped it from the stock y-pipe to a VX muffler. Spectre CAI.

There still one thing that is bugging me. A rough idle. I just filled up and put 87 octane and 2 bottles of techron in the tank. It said 1 bottle per 12 gal so I did two since my tank is 26 gal.

We'll, the idle is perfectly smooth now. Before it felt like it jumped alittle. Also, when left to idle in drive, the jumping would kind of make the truck jerk a little as it was going forward or backward. odd.

Not exactly sure what it could be. Any ideas?

If it idles fine now, what exactly are you asking? Could have been a partially clogged injector that is now clear.

Its only running fine because of the 2 bottles of techron. I am trying to find out if I have to always dump another $12 dollars of techron at every fillup.

In otherwords, what is the techron making up for that I should repair or replace so that my truck runs normal again?

I am fine with the clog removed but is there anything I can troubleshoot to ensure this is resolve and not just being covered up by the additive?

What brands did you buy? "replaced IAC, TPS, pre-cat o2" and did you remove the negative battery cable while replacing those items so the PCM could relearn the new values.

Hard to troubleshoot something that is not showing symptoms. An occassion bottle of Techron will not hurt anything, at least for a little while, maybe every other tank to make sure.

Chances are some crud from gas or gas tank. If you feel energetic, you could take the gas tank out and dump and clean it. See how much crud is in there.

What plugs, wires, cap and rotor? Are those all good?

An O2 sensor that is bosch will never work with these trucks. It will cause all sorts of problems

Everything for the tune up is OEM spec. Champion plugs, mopar rotor, etc. the O2 is NGK and TPS and IAC are BWD.

Update: the rough idle came back. Should I swap the MAF sensor?

I had both cables disconnected for about an hour. Turned key forward for about 10 sec and then started truck.

There is no MAF sensor.

There IS a MAP sensor.

You did clean the TB, right?

Yes. Map sensor is what I meant. I did clean the TB but did not replace the MAP.
