Default transmission issues

Just took my 99 Ram into the transmission shop to get the sensors/switches replaced. Setting me back 400.00. Then the tech guys sends me this pics telling me how bad it is with all the shavings in there. Quotes me 1800.00 on a rebuild. Sorry dont have that laying around. Can someone tell me if this looks really bad.
Thanks

That actually looks fairly clean compared to some I have seen, and they lasted another 100K miles.....

Unless that is metal there..... that would be bad, but still, should last a while longer.

Is the tranny showing any signs or symptoms that may lead to failure? What was it doing before you took it in? Is it noticeably better now?

That magnet is not too bad. Seen better, seen worse. Then I saw mine - much worse.

Do you have a tranny cooler? There are some things that you can do to help prolong its life.

No cooler, but that is on the list. Its was holding shifts to long from 2 to 3rd. It wasnt slipping just not shfting right, then shifting hesitantly. They replaced the seliniods and it is better but still holds 2nd a bit long.
