Is the gasket leaking, has the pan rusted out? Front/Rear main seal?

Depending on mileage, and how your oil pressure is doing, might not hurt to consider replacing the pump while you are there, along with the rear main seal.

Make sure the screen on the pick up tube is clean.

Took me a whole 1 hour to drop the pan, pull the oil pump and clean everything back up.
Take the pick up tube off the pump and flush it real good. Mine was full of crud.
Dab of sealant at the corners of the gasket front and rear and you good on leaking.
You do not need to drop starter or that inspection plate. But it helps.

I would install a new pump since you have alot of miles on the truck, good idea to prime it before installing also. Have fun!

if your rear main seal is leaking, its a good opportunity to replace it.
also the oil pump.

i was not able to get my oil pan off without removing the f***ing starter, which was the hardest part because it was torqued to 50 million foot pounds.

get the little bottle of permatex anaerobic sealant for the rear cap.

We have a two-piece rear main seal on our trucks. So, no need to drop the trans. Just remove the rear main cap, loosen the others, and drive the upper half of the seal out. (use a wooden dowel, or some such, nothing that is going to marf up the surfaces...) lower half is easy when you have the cap in your hand.
