Gdstock: can I reuse my damn near new gasket? Or do I need another? (When I drop my pan)

The only ones that do this to no avail are the ones that go this route without proper diagnosis.

Do you have the service manual download from the FAQ/DIY section? (Haynes does not cover tranny).

If you have a cork gasket - no. If it is a rubber gasket, you can use it again if the pan has not been severely over tightened.

Let's try something. Can I assume the fluid is full when checked in neutral?

Climb under on driver side and disconnect the connector behind the shifter on the side of tranny case and hang the wiring up out of the way. Take it for a drive and shift it manually from first up through third. (Ignore codes, it will set them). Disconnect battery ground, reconnect tranny connector. Report back how it shifted.

It may be, but check other things first. Parts swapping is one of my pet peeves - because it is as effective as herding chickens.

Tranny rebuild can be expensive, and a stock rebuild will provide less than impressive outcomes. If this is necessary, you may want to consider some things to improve performance AND extend the life of the tranny!
