Default 2001 Ram 1500 tranny issues- close to giving up

About 2 months ago, my 01 Ram 1500 (4x4 5.9 gas automatic trans) began to shift hard. Checking the trans fluid, it smelled a little burnt, which led to me changing the fluid and filter. Shifted smoother than it ever had before until last night. Truck did not shift into 2nd until about 4000 rpms, after that, any gas given to the truck was like it was in neutral. I pushed down moderately on the accelerator, which led to the truck shifting and soon after into OD. After my drive to work this morning, which was problem free, (shifted absolutely normally besides the 4000rpm shift into 2nd), the truck has begun to whine when in 1st, and now seems like it goes straight from 1st to OD. After the 4000rpm shift to 2nd, the rpms drop to 1000 and settles into OD even at speeds as low as 25. Also, the truck will shudder violently when slowing down to a stop in drive, followed by the truck shutting off. I'm at my wit's end with it. It has been an exceptional vehicle for the last year up to this point. Any and all feedback is GREATLY appreciated.

Stock cooler; if I manually shift the truck, it refuses to shift into 2nd period.

Tranny fluid or engine oil?
Tranny fluid looks perfectly normal, no grit. Does not smell burnt.

So what are you saying? I assume you're telling me to get a rebuild, and install a heavy duty tranny cooler?
