Default What transmissions fit a 1996 1500?

1996 1500 5.9 has obd2 port so I was thinking it was 46re but when I ordered my pan gasket from autozone for the exact truck stated aboveit didn't fit the tranny. So I was wondering what tranny I may have and what would work

They all fit. Thing is you need one from a 96 to 97 for it to work correctly. Maybe a 98. Any newer tranny will require the changing of the internal electronics. And just so you know, 94 and 95 won't work at all. Also the tranny needs to be from a 4x4 or 2wd to match whatever your truck currently is.

And btw, a 96 has a 46re. You should get one of these regardless.

Your trans. pretty much has to be a 46RE, nothing else will bolt up and work properly.
Whenever I've bought trans. gaskets, I get two in the box. One fits, and one is for something else. Sounds like AZ didn't give you what you paid for.

+1... A wix filter(which you should use) comes with 2 gaskets. The right one and one for a 727 that is slightly different IIRC.

Edit: Unless someone has already replaced the gasket previously and /or ruined the oem gasket, the OEM tranny pan gasket is reusable.

Yes on the cooler and you should delete the check valve.
