Do I have the "death flash"???
ok i found a tag under my hood that says "reprogramed the pcm to p/n 56040150ag" and the date june 3/03 oh and its a 1999 ram 1500 sport and if it is the death flash would buying a programer from hemifever make a big diference on it?
ok i will check the plenum. and i know there are tonns of discusions about what programer is better does anyone have a list of what each programmer does. jjust superchips and the sct tune from hemi fever?
I have the superchips, but if i had known about the SCT tuner, i would have bought that one (i wasn't a member of the forum at the time). The SCT tuner is better for power gains, but the superchips allows you to change the speedo for tire size and will read check engine lights....and allows you to tune the pcm for performance 87 and 91 octane fuel and there is a tow/haul setting as well. Someone else will chime in with the sct features...
The only thing a SCT won't do is reset the spedometer. But its cheaper than a new SCT at 265 bucks, and offers custom re writable programing from Sean for a nominal fee.
Superchip tuners use a "piggy back" program that enhances the stock tune while the SCT removes the stock tune and replaces it with a whole new one.
My SCT gave me a nice low end boost and about a 1 mpg increase in mileage, plus my truck handles hills and crosswinds better.

ok.... i think i will end up going with the sct. itg seems to be the consensus around here. now since i have the death flash, when i reprogram it with sct will it be a noticeable difrence( seat-o-pants-meter?)

Yes.
I have an '01 that had "death flash". It now has all around better drivability. Before SCT, it would not spin the tires. Had 245/75/16's that were about bald. After, I can now get them to spin with NEW 285/75/16's. And I still have the stock 3.55 gearing.
Oh, and I'm running the 87 tune, 93 gas, and 195* stat. I do this because I work the truck hard and would get pre-detonation unless I ran the recommended 180* stat. But I wanted better heat in the winter so I went back to the stock 195*.
When I had the 180* I was running the 91 tune with 93 gas. No problems. I just wanted better heat.

I don't think it alters the shift point, but it does eliminate torque management.
