P1687 code w/ no speedometer
My 2001 2500 Ram has a P1687 code & no speedometer reading. I ran the self test on the Gage Cluster & it went thru the proper steps, the speedometer popped up & down during the sequencing of the test & I got no code displayed on my odometer. I am suspect of the speed sensot located on the rear diff as suggeted by a friend / mechanic. Can anyone offer a step by step process they would recommend for curing this problem? It has been stalling at stop lights after warming up & never goes into overdrive. Thanks for any help offered & yes, I did seach the other threads and still don't know where to go to fix it.
Replace the sensor? It's only two bolts, and an electrical connector. Not much to it really. Fix that first, reset PCM (disconnect battery while changing sensor is sufficient) and see if that doesn't improve its attitude. Possible you have more than one problem there. Start with the obvious, go from there.
I was surprised to find the wire connector was not plugged into the speed sensor. When I tried to connect it, I found they were dissimilar connectors. I assume this was because the prior owner swapped rear axles. I recentlly bought a Dana 70 to swap out with mine b/c it already was built up w/a locker, 4:10's, & ss drive shafts which I got for $400 & is sitting in the bed of the truck. Turns out the sensor in it was a match & once installed & hooked up, the speedometer works & I have no ABS or CE light either. Something worked in my favor for once, Yeay!

I was so confused that something went right I forgot to mention the one thing that still confuses me, the tranny will still not drop into overdrive! IDK, I thought for sure that problem would also go away. Please not the PCM or any other module for that matter...NOoooooooo. please say it aint so.
