Default 3rd tranny for 99 dodge ram 4x4!

I need a little help here...I replaced first tranny at 102+thousand miles..fresh, completely rebuilt. 2nd one completely rebuilt at 132,000. last one at 157,000. WHAT is going on??? I love my truck and I don't want to do this again...this one is now slipping between 1st and 2nd gear. Not too much when it is cold. I now have 180,000 on it. The motor still purrs like a kitten.
5.2liter. automatic.

If you believe you truck is worth the cost. I've heard nothing but good from these guys' transmissions. $2500-$3000.

I am thinking a cooling issue or poor rebuild. Same guy rebuild each one? And +1 on the PATC tranny. Building stock tranny is like wearing wet socks.......Upgrade or go home!

Mega's are great. You'd never have to rebuild again.

I think they can support 500+hp.

what kind of upgrades would you suggest? Never went to the same repair shop. They did mention something about a plastic part in the tranny. What is a PATC?

PATC is a remanufacturer of transmission. They install better/more clutches/steels, upgrade some of the hard parts in the trans, install a 'shift kit' for firmer, more positive shifts, and also allow the torque converter to charge in park. (which also means you can check your fluid level in park......) They are basically bullet-proof.

If you are smoking transmissions that often, there has to be a reason. What size tires you runnin'? What gears in the axles? have you eliminated the check valve in the trans cooler line? do you tow in overdrive?

I'd like to know what happens to a MegaViper when it gets hot. Put that "out last the truck" to the test

Same thing that happens to any transmission when it overheats. The fluid breaks down, and parts soon follow.

The trick is, keep it cool. If the trans cooler isn't doing it's job, can't expect the trans to live long.

Sure Cure kit by Sonax, billet servos, upgrade servo spring, increase frictions and steels in Direct Clutch, Red alto frictions throughout, external cooler in line with rad cooler, and temp gauge.

Find MonteC's tranny thread...its all in there (and my guiding document).

If my transmission ever dies on me....I will get a Mega Viper (after I get finished crying like a baby!)
