Default finally found a motor to rebuild

i found a 5.9 out of a 2001 dodge ram for 75.00 bucks its all compelete from oil pan to intake... he said it had a headgasket or head problems so he had a new motor installed in his ram... so this sounds like a perfect motor for me to strip down and rebuild... but my question is what thinks should i worry about. in case there was water in the oil or ? i know 75 is cheap but i dont wanna buy something i cant end up using..

what is your guys opinion.. i'm only 22 and i know alot of you out there have more knowledge and experince than i do with these magnum motors

Go for it, tear it down, check things out, see what ya got. If nothing else, it is worth more than 75 bucks as scrap.

replace the heads. There are better alternatives to the stockers out there in internet land. Odessa/Clearwater offers better-than-stock replacements for under 600 a pair.

yea scrap is kinda low here but id get at least half of my money back and yea i didnt plan on useing stockers but my stock heads on my motor have lasted 187k but yeah id like to get better flowing ones since id like to run a bigger cam in the new motor along with a better intake manifold

don't worry about anything. $75 is cheap. buy it, but do replace both heads and take it to your local machine shop to be checked, measured, cleaned

yea i'm going down to oak harbor to get it this weekend its about a 160 mile round trip but i figure it cant hurt to pay 75 for it even if i dont get to it for awhile it'll still be there..

i got more info on the motor., the guy selling it bought the dodge with a bad motor and pulled it with plans to rebuild it well a week after he pulled it his friend totalled out his dodge and didnt have insurence and parting it out so the dude just bought the motor from his friend and now this old one is chilling in his shop

he thinks it the headgasket cause that what the selller told him when he bought the truck.. it had water in the oil and smoked/steamed out the exhuasted.... the seller also said he replaced the head gaskets but never had the heads machined or checked out... but id run a aftermarker set of heads any ways....
