coil spring questions?
i am throwing this same question around to various forums trying to get a handle on what i should do here. progressive rate or flate rate coils?
i am very hard on my truck when i do go off road, ive been known to go air born and i want my truck to handle what i throw at it but 90% of my driving is on road where i am a very fast and aggressive driver. 50Mph clover leafs, hard breaking, hard acceleration, very hard cornering, and i do not slow down for pot holes or bumps. i have narrowed my choices down to two companies. Dodge off Road or Don Thuren of thuren fab. the coils are about the same price in the 350.00 range and im going for 3.5" of lift. the shocks im going with are fox 2.0 at about 250.00 per shock with remote res.
i fear that if i get progressive the truck might be to soft in the turns and that it might sag more but im told that progressive coils can handle more weight than flat rate so... god i dont know! what do you guys recommend i do?
my truck hits the scales at 9,122Lbs. im not sure what % of that is over the front wheels.
secondly what do you think about going high end in the front and lighter in the rear? i plan to shackle flip to remove the factory block so... would i need a high end shock back there with leaf springs?

I don't think much is going to last jumping a 9K pound truck....... especially with that heavy diesel up front.... sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.....
Constant rate springs will give you better handling. Although, it IS a truck...... so, take that with a grain or three of salt. If you have sway bars, that may or may not matter. Progressive rate will probably give you a bit better flex (if you disconnect the sway bar....) and a more comfortable on-road ride.
Everything is a compromise.
Decide which is more important, take it from there.

i think if your serious about off road. you will need a 5" lift and long arms. especially if your airborn the long arms will feel plush. also needed will be hydro bump stops. for a diesel performance truck what springs to use? constant rate will feel harsh. for cornering that would be ok! and i wouldnt go soft on the leaf pack! a shackle flip is good, but add a leaf too- along with a rear sway!

ive been emailing carli, don thuren, and tim over at dodge off road. carli has dual rate springs and not real progressives for the 2nd gen. at this point i think im strongly leaning towards thurens king shocks and flat rate coils along with dodge off roads flex joint control arms and thurens steering stab. luks links on the other joints under the truck and the dodge off road drop track bar kit.
ive got a week to change my mind on some of these parts
